Actual Thoughts I've Had

Sometimes I'll just be thinking about something and then realize I'm being super weird. I decided to try and remember those thoughts so I could blog about them. You're welcome (or not). This post has been in my drafts forever, so I'm going along with Alyssa's Back to Blogging Non-Challenge Challenge prompt of a blog post you've wanted to post but haven't hit publish on! I was trying to build this up, but it's taken so long to get this handful of thoughts that I decided I'd take this opportunity to just go for it!

Prefacing this thought with some background. You know how chokers are 'back'? And you know how everyone is now wearing plain black chokers? Well... Those plain black chokers remind me of the last time chokers were popular and girls would just tie a black bra strap around their neck. Yes...that's how a plain black choker looks to me. Sorry, everyone.

What is the plural of 'Mercedes'? Is it 'Mercedeses' or is it just 'Mercedes' like 'moose' or 'deer'?

Wow, female ducks are never alone. They're always with a male duck. Male ducks hang out alone or third-wheel it though. I wonder if ducks mate for life... I had this thought just about every day for weeks (our apartment complex before moving to our house had duck ponds). I Google'd it, and apparently ducks have 'seasonal monogamy' each mating season, which happens to be winter...so it makes sense that I see all the duck couples around. [Winter...yes, this post has been in my drafts since February.]

How do airport employees go to work? Where do they park? How tight is their security? I NEED TO KNOW THIS. I've wondered this for years. Seriously. Did anyone ever work for a Starbucks or Wendy's or whatever in the airport past security? I'm so curious. (I could probably Google this but asking blog people is more fun, ya know?)

So...what even is a Twitter party? You just all tweet about something at the same time? And reply? And hashtag? Isn't that basically just normal Twitter? #halp

Why aren't there generic candy bars? Has anyone else ever noticed this? There are all sorts of store brands of gummi worms and peach rings, but I've never seen a generic Twix bar or Kit Kat (or basically any other candy bar). Are chocolate candies just too expensive to produce?

How in the hell do you line tights with fleece?! Obviously, I live somewhere with mild winters. Fleece-lined leggings make a little more sense to me, though I've never owned those either. But tights?!

How did words even come to exist? How can we comprehend them? This one hurts my head a little. It's just like...when you read a dictionary definition of something, it's made up of words, right? So if we didn't already know what all those words meant, how would we be able to understand? Like, how did someone convey what words like "think" and "the" and "air" mean? If it's an object, you can just point at it and say the word, but what about concepts?! Okay, I have to stop. Head = hurting.

  1. I have both fleece lined tights and leggings and they are amazing! I guess they are sort of hard to explain but they really aren't all that different than regular leggings/tights, they're just ticker. I buy mine at Mark's Work Warehouse (I have no idea what the US version of that would be) or at outdoor stores (Cabela's/Bass Pro) and occasionally I'll find a pair at Winner's (Home Goods). They are the best things ever invented, I wear mine all the time!

We also have off brand chocolate bars at the dollarstore. They are pretty sketchy and rather gross but essentially the same ingredients as the name brand ones just with different names, the Mars bars are called Astroid bars!

  2. I had no idea the bra strap choker used to be a thing, but that's hilarious. It reminds me of a meme I saw floating around where someone used a shoelace and got a million compliments. I have fleece lined tights and they're so nice and warm, but I have no idea how they're made or don't fall apart or what-not.

  3. Hmmmm the duck thing is totally interesting and if I saw them every day I would have wondered the same thing. I am not a fan of the black choker look but some of the silver ones look pretty. I just dont like anything that tight on my neck. I wont even wear turtlenecks.

I totally don't get twitter parties. And your last thought is something I have thought before and had to stop because it makes my head hurt too!

  4. I kind of tink those things about WORDS & how they came into existence too - & then there are LANGUAGES - other words for the same thing.
YEAHHHH - that's got me wondering about the airport security thing.
I would think that fleece in tights would make your legs look so much THICKER - who wants that?

  5. Ha, ha! These are great & some similar things that I too have wondered especially the duck thing because we live a couple blocks away from the river so there are always ducks around.

  6. Oh my gosh... PERFECT ANNA KENDRICK GIF. Have you seen that video of her?? Hahaha! I have weird thoughts all. the. time. But usually I voice them to K and he just looks at me like weirdo. These are great thoughts. The choker one has been in my head, too! Like, I just really hate how they look..... lol.

HOW? lol @ seasonal monogamy. the twitter party confuses me, but twitter in general confuses me. i think super weird things and i wish i wrote them down to do a post like this.

  8. I did the bra strap thing once or twice, but my favorite black chokers that I wore for practically all of high school were made by cutting off the foot of a black stocking, then cutting off the toe, and then rolling the foot down so it made a choker. Yeah, I don't know if that's any classier than the bra strap thing...

I thought the plural was Mercedes? No idea though, to be honest.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever seen generic chocolate bars either. Not even just like plain chocolate. Weird!

Also, I've had those very same thoughts about words too many times to count and it just makes my brain feel like scrambled eggs every time.

    Thanks for joining the challenge!

  9. Ok so you totally just made my head hurt too with the language thing! Maybe people were just at one point standing around and grunting and then they started making up words. Who knows! And with the words ending in S thing, I always just change it to an I because it sounds funny. I totally don't know the plural of Mercedes, but Mercedi just sounds fun!

  10. OK, I LOVE your brain and how it works. These are so funny I don't even know where to begin! Here's a start:

1- I'm so into the choker trend...I am. I didn't realize I was until last spring when I saw one in a store, realized it went with an outfit I was wearing out that night, and was hooked like it was 1994 all over again.
2- I'm now curious about the airport security thing, too...
3- I THINK Twitter "parties" are basically a person, group or brand hosting a chat of sorts where they ask questions and you 'answer' them using the hashtag. I never participate; they're weird and overwhelming to follow, if I'm honest!

  11. Ummm now you have me thinking about why there are no generic candy bars. I want to know this too. And the choker trend...nope, not into it. I think it was fine back then, but not now. I am curious about airport workers too.

  12. I've never really thought about how we came up with words before but that definitely makes my head hurt now that I think about it, haha. I have no idea how Twitter parties work either. Actually I struggle with Twitter in general & get so confused by it. I remember the bra strap chokers but never wore those! I actually wore the "tattoo" chokers instead & I've seen those making a comeback also...

  13. What the heck... why DON'T we have generic candy bars?! My mind is completely boggled right now. I'd buy a lot more of it if it WAS generic. I'm cheap!

  14. haha I work for a dictionary so your last point made me chuckle. I love reading etymologies. I try to include them whenever I have to write definitions because I'm always like "where did this weird-ass phrase come from??" I also learned in undergrad that Samuel Johnson compiled an early dictionary, and it was just like "huh, that didn't always exist. WEIRD." And I have no idea what Twitter parties are, but I "went" to a facebook party recently, and it was great! I felt social from the comfort of my living room WITHOUT feeling socially awkward. WIN.

  15. I worked at an airport coffee shop for two summers! The airport that I worked at had an employee lot between the 'plane area' (lamest name that I could come up with to explain that location this late) and the normal parking for traveling people. We had access cards to get in and out of the lot and were warned its awful to forget yours. My coffee shop was outside security but the same people had a shop inside security too and those girls came in and out of security all the time. From what I could gather while working there you had a background check ran and such and then used a badge to speed through security. Pretty positive they still walked through the scanner dealio but the badge made it a quicker process. I also think that sometimes the stuff they brought in for the shop had to be scanned too. Specifically, I remember a huge pot of clam chowder that someone from TSA tried to put through the purse sized belt scanner... Big mess. Huge.

  16. HAHAHA MATTIE all of these are hilarious and I can't reply to every single thing but just know I'll be sharing this on twitter. (I'll tag you.) I am so glad you went ahead and posted this!!

  17. Fleece lined anything is amazing here in Chicago! lol But you're right, tights don't make too much sense to me either.

  18. I live in Boston and do not understand the whole fleece lined tights/leggings. I get it if you have to walk far in the cold but to be in an office building all day in them, no i don't get it. I would think you would over heat in them. They keep so many places too warm as it is. Maybe I don't understand them because I would much rather be cold than warm.

  19. Hahaha! Let me know if you get an answer to the airport employees one. (And now I see that someone already answered. Interesting.) I love that meme for the Twitter party. I've participated in a couple and I agree that they're kind of silly. It's just a specific time for a bunch of people to be online and using the same hashtag together.

  20. My latest weird thought has been how long flocks of birds fly before they take a break....I mean there are a lot of flocks flying south right now (I think? I also just saw seagulls on the waterfront. Anyways) and they have to stop and rest for a little bit right?!?! They can't just fly to warm weather in one trip!

  21. I'm not a big fan of chokers either. I think there are cute ones, but those are definitely not the plain black ones that look like a bra strap lol. Great post!

  22. Aldi has generic Mars bars that my husband buys every now and then.
When I see those chokers, it makes me feel old.
I don't know what a twitter party is either. Then, again, like I said, I'm old.

  23. When I traveled a few weeks ago, like three people from a Mexican restaurant inside the airport got on the same shuttle I did at an off-site parking lot. That one was definitely the cheapest available so I guess they just have to pay to park every day, which is a total bummer. I never thought about it until then! Maybe in cities with better public transport, it's easier? The word thing kills me. Who made up these words? Where did foliage come from and who chose umbrella?

  24. I love all of these, hahaha. I actually know a little about the airport one, though. My mother in law worked for US Airways and she had to get up SUPER early because they park far away and then shuttle to the terminal and then they there is a certain entrance they have to go in. And her office was far away from the employee entrance so she had to walk forever. Needless to say, she wasn't sad to leave that job/commute.
