Northwest Native: Things I Said I'd Never Do

Things I Said I'd Never Do

Get married. Well we all know how that turned out. ;)

Have kids. I haven't yet, but I have a major case of baby fever and (at least) three baby names picked out, so...

Wear skinny jeans. I used to always wear flared jeans until skinny jeans became popular when I was in high school. I said I'd never wear skinny jeans because my feet are so big and you can hide that in flares...and now I only wear skinny jeans.

In the town neighboring my hometown, there is a Macy's. It used to be called the Bon Marche (I think this was a chain, so maybe some of you remember that). When Macy's bought them, I said it would always be the Bon to me and I'd never call it Macy's. I call it Macy's.

When I was little, I used to always say 'thongs' instead of 'flip flops.' At that time it wasn't weird to me to call them thongs, even though I knew about the underwear. A lot of people referred to them that way. I hated the term flip flops. I call them flip flops.

Be a runner. I picked up running last year and even ran a 5K! I don't run much anymore, but the fact that running on the treadmill is one of my go-to workouts at the gym is crazy to me.

Wear pointy-toed shoes. Annnd then I fell in love with these lace-up flats. I tried them on over the weekend and can't stop thinking about them! When they started showing up everywhere, I thought they looked so cute but figured I'd never be able to wear them. I love these in cognac, because they'd be spring/summer shoes for me and black wouldn't be that practical...not that I even wear black much in fall or winter.

And I'm sure there are many more things that I'm currently drawing a blank on. Linking up with Sweet Little Ones for Tuesday Talk!

Is there anything you said you'd never do and you did it anyway?

  1. Haha this is great! Isn't it funny how life just throws you for a loop? I took a finance class in college and swore to never touch it again and here I am in a finance job haha! Life is funny. Have a great day!

  2. I'm so hyper-aware of ever saying I would never do something, because I always end up doing said thing, lol. Nathan is MUCH worse at it then me - he seriously does this constantly! It cracks me up. Hey, at least you are owning it!

  3. I officially want those lace up flats now too! SO cute and patiently waiting for Target to have a BOGO 50% off shoe sale, haha.

  4. I love this idea for a post! I always thought I'd skip kissing my husband at the alter because I didn't want to kiss someone in front of my family. (This was when I was really young.) Haha! Obviously I kissed him up there! :)

  5. I love this! I say all the time that I don't think I want kids and yet I have a list of baby names in my phone... hahahaha

I always said I would never move back to my hometown and yet I hightailed it back here the second I picked up my diploma!

  6. Ha it's so funny how life changes like that and when you look back you realize things are so different than what you said they were going to be.

  7. Bell bottoms and flares were the thing! And now skinny jeans are the rage or is it boyfriend jeans? I never know. I still haven't jumped on the pointy shoes wagon just yet. I love wedges and rounded shoes but I'm sure I will find a style that i love soon enough.

As a kid I used to say I'd never wear dresses, and now that's all I wear, go figure!

  8. I am also a master of doing everything I said I would never do. High five!! ;)

Also yes to picking out baby names. Hopefully Freddie doesn't have any input because I've already figured out plenty of baby names on my own! Haha.

  9. Oh gosh - I laugh at the idea of someone calling flip flops 'thongs' :) haha
I was the same way with skinny jeans. Hard to find anything BUT that anymore.
Baby names... I love you already are on that!
Yep... I try to never say never because ... yeah... you get it :)

  11. I love this! I definitely said I'd never wear skinny jeans or leggings but here I am in leggings! I also said I'd never have kids but now I know we will, but just not for like 5 years.

  12. haha!! What a great idea for a post! I remember getting my first pair of skinny jeans in college and feeling so ~scandalous~ and now they're all I wear! Whoops.

  13. I love this type of post!! I was the same way not wearing skinny jeans (I'm short, so I felt like they made me look shorter haha) forever, but now I really like them (and still have my flared jeans!). I've never called flip flops "thongs" but I like that name better!

  14. Haha it's amazing how we can come up with some things that we're definitely not going to do and then end up doing them! I swore that I wasn't going to wear skinny jeans, and now that's pretty much all I own! I also swore that I wasn't a runner, but it's so much fun to run 5Ks!

  15. Great idea for a post. I never thought I would be a runner, but I love it. Such a great stress release. I said I would never wear skinny jeans. I even waited and waited until I tried on a friends pair and I was sold. Now I own a bunch of them.

  16. Our Macy's used to be the Bon too! My mom and I still call it the Bon - old habits die hard!

  17. Oh my goodness I have a post just like this in my drafts! Great post idea :)
I was the same way with skinny jeans and pointy shoes. The only one I still say no to is Uggs because everyone and their mom wore them in college and at first I just couldn't afford them (when they first came out I was a broke college student and their parents were buying them for them) and then when I could afford them myself I didn't want to be like everyone else, comfort be damned! I've still never even tried them on, mostly because if I did I might really like them!

  18. This is a really fun post. I may have to steal the idea!

  19. All the time, haha. Before Cocoa I said I would never let my dog act crazy and now I have her and realize she is nuts!!

  20. Being a runner when you didn't expect to is an awesome one! I run sometimes and ran cross-country all through high school, run some races here and there but I still always just hate it. Boo, ha. And I have my baby names picked out too and I just hope I get to use them!

  21. I also swore up and down i would not get married and have kids. no kids yet of course, but i'm getting married in January. i'm so glad i changed my mind! :)

  22. I definitely told people that I was never going to get married. And yep, it's happening in three months now! I also boycotted skinny jeans for the longest time.. I only wore flares or boot cut jeans. But then it started becoming impossible to find decent ones so I jumped on the skinny jean trend & they are all I wear now too! This was a fun post! :)

  23. I love this post! So fun! So glad you hopped on the skinny board train. Now I see flares coming back and I say NEVER. Are we really going back there?!

  24. Great post! I have a friend that still calls the Macy's near her "The Bon." Haha! My mom says thongs for flip flops and we make fun of her all the time. I feel like it took me a long time to embrace skinny jeans and now flares are coming back!

  25. I have baby names picked out too. Now to get Chris to agree...haha. ;) I thought I would never be a runner either, but I've really enjoyed it lately.

  26. hahah I love it!! And I wanna hear your baby names (I won't steal them I swear :) ) Flares are coming back, especially with hippie pants ( I dunno what they're called, but they're cute and Target sells them, like the wide leg patterned pants) but I am also obsessed with skinny jeans.

  27. i said the same thing about skinny jeans! except my reason was my huge thighs. i wore super baggy jeans so my legs were the same size the whole way down but that just made me look ridiculous, so thank goodness for skinny jeans.
i swore i would never call them flip flops.. but i just can't say thongs here, everyone freaks out. and then i slip and call them flip flops when i talk to someone at home and they freak out... can't win!

  28. Love that picture of you guys from your wedding! So gorgeous!!

Also, I said the exact same thing about skinny jeans for the exact same reason!! It made me laugh out loud when I read that. You totally feel my pain there! I came over to the dark side, though, when I realized how cute skinny jeans were with boots. But I knew that I would NEVER wear them with sandals or other shoes. Yeah, I'm a total convert now. ;)

  29. For me they are thongs not flip flops but that is because I am an Aussie and we call them thongs, just saying.

I remember when Garden City became Westfield I said I wouldn't call it Westfield it was Garden City now I often call it Westfield, just saying.
