Lately [3.3.16]

I originally had titled this post, "What I've been up to," but I started it and realized it was formatted exactly like a 'currently' post. But I just felt like 'lately' was a better description, since it's just about my life the past few days. So there you go.

Dropping my chapstick in the toilet (and then fishing it it out [yuck] and throwing it in the garbage).

Listening to Tully howl because I let my alarm go off for too long (this is the only time she howls; she whines, sure, but she only howls when your alarm goes off for too long).

Attending my first Timbers (Portland's MLS team) game on Saturday. (Michael took a picture of me but I decided I hated it way too much to post.)

Being happy that Flora started feeling better on Wednesday and didn't puke after Wednesday morning...until Saturday morning when she did it again...annnd again on Monday. :(

Going to open houses to just check out the situation and being sad that we aren't in a position to buy right now (and also freaking out about how quickly houses sell around here).

Eating Sunday morning pancakes (chocolate chip and regular) and turkey bacon plus some fancy Whiskey syrup one of our friends brought us from Seattle when they visited last weekend.

Crushing on Brie Larson because dang she looked awesome in that dress + I loved her acceptance speech.

Feeling so happy for Leo finally winning his first Oscar, and deciding the next non-politician who should run for office (sorry not sorry, Kanye--thanks but no thanks!).

Hating filling out my self-evaluation for my performance review at work. Why are these things so tedious? Plus, it's hard for me to rate myself--it feels unnatural.

Hearing the song 7 Years by Lukas Graham on satellite radio constantly (and I ain't mad about it). Have you heard it? It makes me contemplate life--it's pretty emotional. (But dang, kids actually 'smoke herb' and drink 'burning liquor' at eleven years old?! Yikes.)

Reading Me Before You as fast as I can because the hold list I have going at the library is super stressful. I mean, I should be happy, I guess, right? In Seattle the hold lines were much, much longer...but I only get 21 days with each book (you can't extend e-books...womp, womp), and only three days before my hold goes away unless I check it out. I'm just going to cry if a bunch of them become available at once.

Lusting over this pretty little watch. It was on Rue La La the other day for $150, but there were two left. I just kept wishing Nordstrom would price match it so I could use my gift card and just pay $50 for it...but no such luck.

Spending way too much time trying to find a gif of Olivia Munn from the end of the Oscars--her arms were loaded with Girl Scout cookies and she had this maniacal look in her eyes. It made me want to be friends with her. (I just saw an article that said she looked 'scary skinny' at the Oscars. Excuse me? I thought she looked healthy and that dress looked awesome on her. Body shaming happens to everyone, folks...)

  1. I hate when all the books I have on hold become available at once! I only get 2 weeks with my books so I end up rushing to finish!

  2. Ah that 7 years song always makes me so emotional lol. I like it, but it always gets me thinking about life way too deeply lol. And I think that library thing sounds like kind of a good thing in a way because I tend to take forever to read books. I could use a push lol. I can never get a library card though because we still have MI id's. That's probably the first thing I will do once we settle somewhere, get a library card.

  3. Ahh the housing situation here is depressing, too. My goal this year is to work on a good down payment!

  4. Ahhh! That 7 years song, I LOVE and get all whistful/weepy haha! And yikes about your chapstick - lol! Love Leo too!! It seems like nobody's very happy with our political choices at the moment so you never know!

  5. YUMMY to the pancakes, you have me craving some for breakfast now. Also I hate doing self assessments for work, THE WORST!

  6. Haha! I get stressed about my holds list at the library, too! I LOVED Sea of Tranquility and Why Not Me. Big Little Lies was pretty good, too! I'd love to hear what you think of Me Before You and Modern Romance! I also think I need some whiskey syrup in my life.

  7. This post was so entertaining but I can't pinpoint why... haha! All your posts are entertaining, lol! I didn't even realize that song said something about doing that stuff at 11. Weird... at 11 I think I was playing Barbies still......

  8. okay, library hold lists are SUPER stressful. i totally get you there. horrible.
man i can't believe you go to open houses when you're not in a position to buy - the most i let myself do is look online haha because if we went to an open house i would cry because we couldn't buy it. womp womp. but i feel you. houses are selling like hotcakes lately and that is hopefully good news for when we sell, but not when we buy.. womp. i can't vote because i am not a citizen... but i would become a citizen and vote for Leo. thanks for linking up with us!

  9. I'd totally vote for Leo for President - he's already having a great year - let's top it off :)

I have 2 books on hold at the library that I just KNOW are going to come at the same time. Its going to be a Sophie's choice on which one I go with

  10. I know this doesn't help but I think you can use your Nordstrom gift cards at Haute Look (like Rue La La) because they are part of the same company. you can always check Haute Look for their watches. I love Olivia Munn.

  11. I love Kate Spade merchandise in general- so stylish, clean and classic. Does Nordstrom normally price match? I hope you can get it! That hold list would stress me out something awful, especially since I'm not a fast reader. Maybe you can unhold a few and try again later in the month?

  12. It's crazy how people will pick at anything body wise. It would be nice to have positive comments on things other than our bodies!! And pancakes are so good and I forget how much I like them until I make them.

  13. Leo over Trump any day!
I'm glad your dog is feeling better! Yay for not having to clean up anymore puke!

  14. I love borrowing ebooks, but I have the same problem! They all inevitably become available at once!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hate self evaluations too - but I make my employees fill them out hahaha

I keep finding houses I LOVE online and then having to give myself a reality check that I'm not quite there yet. One day!!

  16. That sucks that you dropped your Chapstick in the toilet! I don't know what I'd do without mine! That's too funny that Tully howls at the alarm clock going off! Dart really doesn't howl, but there are definitely some things that make him go crazy! We've had the same situation with the housing market in Texas for the past couple of years, and don't worry, you'll be able to find the house for you. It just might take a little bit longer, but it'll end up being perfect for y'all!

  17. I know how you feel about not being in the position to buy. I would love to buy a house when we move back to Texas, but the market is insane right now, and we will likely have to move again after four years (for fellowship after residency), so I've resigned myself to the fact that we won't have a house anytime soon.

  18. Ugh house hunting is the worst when it's a seller's market :( So stressful, so maybe it'll be less competitive when you're ready to buy. At least we can hope, right?! Thanks for linking up with Kristen and me!

  19. Okay now I need to see that Olivia M gif! I love when celebs are "real"! Makes me want to be BFFs with them! ;) Brie Larson is just adorable!!! That whiskey syrup sounds too good!!!! :)

  20. Omg dropping things in the toilet is such a double-whammy of horror--after realizing that something you love has now been contaminated, you then have to fish it out, which is so so horrifying. Eeek. And having library books on hold is super stressful!

  21. Olivia Munn! I love her! She was in Perfect Couples and I related to her way too much in that show, haha!

Also such a bummer about Flora. I wonder why she's still throwing up. :( Did the vet give you any insight on this?

  22. Those pancakes look like a yummy breakfast!

  23. Ugh, house hunting is so stressful! Someone mentioned to us that things usually slow down during the fall/winter/spring but then picks back up in the summertime. I'm not sure if that is true or not but if so, I imagine houses will just start selling even more! Our library is pretty crappy so every time I find a book that I want, I have to put it on hold. :( And then yes, only get for like 2 weeks before it has be to be returned again! I love that watch! Hopefully it goes on sale sometime soon! :)

  24. Can't say I've ever had Whiskey Syrup. Sounds interesting. I'm currently renting and found out recently that medical bills are keeping us from buying a home. Bummer. Sooo glad we don't have to do self-evaluations where I work. That's a pretty watch.

  25. I didn't realize that I was spoiled with my 4 week checkout with extension at my library! It's the worst when all the books you want come at once. Thats usually when I cave and end up buying one ha

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wait audio books can be checked out?! haha I had no clue! I just assumed if it's audio, there's a stream online for anyone to check out whenever! Anyways, I just thought that was really interesting! :) K an bacon has been making me sick while prego (saddest thing I've had to avoid) but that turkey bacon looks so good and maybe that wouldn't make me sick cause it's turkey?! how is it compared to normal bacon? either way, I'm craving it now haha and was the MLS game fun?! Jason would LOVE to go to an MLS game, it's his favorite sport!! Lighting at games is always terrible tho so I totally get not wanting to post the picture. Happy weekend M!! xo

  27. I was so happy that Leo one, well deserved. Don't get discouraged about house hunting, when the time is right I'm sure you will find the right home for you and your husband.

  28. blech to fishing things out of the toilet, no thank you! I hate when I have to do that. Self-Evals are definitely hard and sooooo time consuming.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kind of jealous you get 7 holds-- we only get 6 at a time and the struggle is REAL, haha. But I also see your struggle because you're just 1 away with all of the books! I also struggle with the time limit, one of the books I read last night, I checked and had like 17 minutes left and had to power through the ending otherwise I knew I wouldn't ever finish it because I didn't really love it. I'm with you, I thought Olivia Munn looked gorgeous at the Oscars- so pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah we can borrow books from the library for 4 weeks but sometimes I will order 3 or 4 and they all turn up at the same time, which means I cannot get through them all so annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The Aziz Ansari book is quite good, very funny and it's a fairly quick read! (Though ack, that might not be as helpful when you have so many books coming in at the same time.)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I do the same thing with the holds at the library...then I have to scramble to get there! LOL Loved Me Before You!! I am going to check out that song now! Haven't heard it!! Hope your weekend's been great!

  33. My library has no decent books to even put on hold. Seriously, it is a GORGEOUS, spacious building that has a few bookshelves of beach reads and every season of every television show on DVD. Guess they think we're not a literary crowd...

  34. Pancakes are the best! i love them, I make funfetti cupcakes for Sophie.

I'm so glad that Leo won the Oscar finally! He's had some really good movies and to not get an Oscar for them is just sad.

Cute watch! Love that it has some gold in it. I love my MK watch but I'm lusting over some gold tones.

  35. Ugh don't even talk to me about housing prices. We decided to rent first when we moved to our area just in case we hated it, and in the 9 months between moving here and deciding that yes we probably did want to buy something, prices had shot up so much we were totally priced out. So we're still in our rental house. Sigh.

I hope your hold list spurs you onto ever newer heights of reading speed! It'll be an achievement....right?!

  36. I'm so glad Leo won too! And that little boy from the room movie is my fave he's adorable, I just started following him on Instagram.

That bfast sounds amazing! And the housing market here is totally crazy too. We were interested in a house this past weekend and literally there were 12 other inspections. Insane
