Beauty Products Lately

I did a post on my favorite hair products and a post on my beauty routine back when my blog was just getting started. I find it hilarious that my favorite hair products post is my most read post of all time because I know nothing about hair care and I pretty much hate my hair 99% of the time. I've had a few new products that I've been using and loving and I've been meaning to post them for a while. Not all of these are about hair (okay, all but one are...), and by the way, I don't consider myself an expert on any of this stuff. Not even an amateur. This is just what I've been liking!
beauty faves
I've mentioned my love of Batiste Dry Shampoo before, but now I've tried out three scents too! The original doesn't smell bad, but it doesn't leave your hair with a pretty scent to it, so I wanted to test out the scents. I started with Tropical Coconut and decided I'd never buy Original again because I loved the smell. Then I tried Cherry because, you know, branching out. I decided I liked it even better and it would be my new go-to. I went to the grocery store to buy a can because I ran out, and they only had Original and Blush...so I figured I should try Blush Floral. For the record...new favorite. I don't think there are any other scents so I should be okay. I haven't tried the one for brown hair yet. I have really light hair, and it says it's for dark hair. Also, does anyone know if it can stain your pillow case or clothes or anything? Because I would rather have dinghy dry shampoo hair than ruin my sheet sets or clothes!

Very shortly after I posted my favorite hair products in May, I ran out of my Not Your Mother's shampoo and conditioner and I was ready for a change. I don't like to spend tons of money on shampoo and conditioner, so I picked up some OGX from Target. Oh my gosh, the Keratin Oil shampoo smells amazing. I don't know how to describe it. It doesn't smell floral or fruity...it's kind of sort of similar to the Blush Floral dry shampoo I mentioned above (which sounds like it would smell like roses or peonies or baby powder but totally doesn't--I don't think it smells that floral at all). The Brazilian Keratin Therapy conditioner smells pretty good too, kind of like coconut, but I don't like it as much as the shampoo!

I actually ended up switching shampoo and conditioner just a week or so after I bought the OGX stuff because Ulta was having their $15 large container sale (that they're actually having right now and I didn't realize until I already started writing this post!), so I jumped at the chance to get fancy salon products for cheap! Shaeffer raves about Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner, and so do some of her readers, so I knew I had to get that. The bottles are huge, so I'm sure I'll be using them for months and months since I only wash every third day. They do make my hair feel really soft! And they smell pretty good...just not as good as the OGX Keratin Oil shampoo I mentioned before. I definitely wouldn't replace these at full price, but I'd buy them again during a big sale. When I run out I'll use up what's left of my OGX stuff and then I'm considering trying the Suave Professionals Rosemary + Mint that Katie raved about!

This isn't a new product, but since getting my hair chopped off, I've started using my hair dryer again  (because my hair can actually be styled instead of being limp and lifeless no matter what I do to it) instead of just letting it air dry. I have this Jilbere Ceramic Tools Porcelain Series Turbo Hair Dryer. I swear by it. It's powerful, which is what you need to blow dry volume into your hair. I flip my hair upside down and side to side while drying and I can get quite a bit of volume.

Last but not least, I think my very favorite product lately is Dove Dry Spray! It is seriously a game changer for me. I use the kind with the blue cap, and I think it smells amazing. (Note: I do have to hold my breath, spray, and run out of the room to breathe again. It's very strong, but once the cloud of it dissipates I love the scent.) I had seen commercials for it and then it was kind of an impulse purchase when it was right up by the register at Target...but now I'm totally loyal. I couldn't tell you how many shirts over the years have gotten ugly deodorant stains, which was one of my major pet peeves. This completely eliminates that.

Also, I just bought a Wet Brush (literally last night) because I left my brush at my parents' house so I'm hoping I love it as much as everyone else does!

I'm linking up with Sweet Little Ones for Tuesday Talk!

What are your favorite beauty products lately? Anything I'm missing out on?

  1. My husband and I both love the OGX shampoos and conditioners :) We switch it up depending on our needs. We're also big fans of the BigSexyHair blow dry volumizing gel. We really loved the chi hair shine product, too, but I don't buy from companies that test on animals so I'm currently looking for a replacement!

    1. I have a straightener, too. The company sells products in China (which requires animal testing) so the company in general is almost certainly not cruelty-free. But I would guess the products in the US aren't tested. It just depends on how strict you want to be... :)

  2. Oooh, love your picks! I'm in the market for a new hairdryer ... mine is super old. I did buy some new "drying spray" that's like heat spray but also claims it cuts drying time down (I have super thick hair) and it seems to be working - win!

  4. Batiste is my favorite, I haven't bought any other dry shampoos in years. And I agree, the floral one is definitely the best by far! And I've never tried the brown but I did try the blonde one once and I ended up throwing it away bc it literally came out yellow and smelled so awful I had to shower right away!

  5. I need a new blow dryer desperately - I still have a Conair one that I've had since high school. I'm hoping I can fit a DryBar blowdryer in my budget in Spring!

I want to try the Batiste dry shampoo for dark hair but haven't been able to find it anywhere in Canada. I've used the original and I still prefer a Garnier version over it but if I can get my hands on the one for dark hair I will definitely try it

I'm OBSESSED with Aussies 3 Minute Miracle Moist - I have thick, curly hair and it works wonders on it!

  6. A LONG time ago, I actually got my hair professionally straightened, and had to use "sulfate-free" products, which is how I cam across the OBX Brazilian Keratin shampoo/conditioner and LOVED them! I no longer have to use them, but I still use the flat iron spray and love the way it smells. And I actually just purchased the Dove dry spray (coupon+ on sale!) and can't wait to try it. I hate those deodorant marks on clothes! Great picks!

  7. I love the Wet Brush!! I tried it on a whim a few years ago because my roommate had it (and her hair always looked amazing), and I love how it just glides through my super-thick hair! I just picked up the cherry Batiste a few weeks ago and am enjoying it! I feel like it has less of a "choking cloud of scent" issue than other dry shampoos haha. And I almost bought an OGX shampoo yesterday! Great minds :)

  8. REDKIN ALLSOFT IS MY SHIT!! John even is hooked on it lol. I'm glad you mentioned the Ulta sale because I had no idea. We always get like 6 when they're on sale lol. Also, the wet brush IS amazing. You will love it. Someone told me once never to use it to blow dry my hair, I'm not sure if that's really true or not, but I do still use another one for that, just in case.

  10. I love Batiste. My favorite send is the Wild one with the leopard print. It smells sort of perfume-y I guess? I haven't tried the floral one but I want to. I have heard a few people say that the brunette one does stain your pillow case. The Keratin shampoo sounds fun.

My favorite new hair product is the Garnier frizz stuff. It works so good!

  13. I really like Batiste dry shampoo. It is better than any others I have tried! I have not had any good luck with the OGX brand stuff. I tried their Macadamia Oil shampoo & it dried my hair out so bad! I'm using the Cherry Blossom kind right now and I'm not a fan. :( I also picked a Redken shampoo during that sale & it is definitely one of my favorites. My favorite product right now is the Loreal Blow Dry Primer Spray which I've re-purchased a few times now! I've noticed that it really helps make my hair feel softer when I blow dry it.

  16. i love my batiste! i use the brunette one. it leaves like a residue on my pillow case, but it doesn't stain, comes right out when i wash it, no big deal. but i wouldn't use it if i had light hair, personally!
